What is a Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ placed over a tooth to restore its function and appearance. Crowns are used to replace chipped, decayed, discoloured, broken, or misaligned teeth, or teeth with large fillings. Dental crowns can also be used to attach bridges and cover dental implants. Crowns can last for many years, depending on the health of the underlying tooth.
Generally, the crown procedure is completed in two to three visits. In your first visit, the dentist will remove a small portion of your tooth to accommodate the dental crown. The dentist will then place a temporary crown to protect the tooth. An impression is taken, and the permanent crown then constructed in the laboratory. When you return for your second visit, the temporary crown is removed, and your new custom-made dental crown will be securely placed, resulting in a permanent, beautiful and natural-looking smile.
At Red Hill Dental, our innovative 3D dental CAD/CAM technology can construct crowns, bridges, and veneers in one day. Click here for more info about Same-Day Crowns.
A patient recently saw Dr Henry to have a tooth restored with a Dental Crown, see more about this case here – Dental Crown.
What is a Bridge?
A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It spans or bridges the space where the teeth are missing. Dental bridges restore the appearance and function of the missing teeth. Similar to crowns, the process of fitting a bridge generally requires two to three visits. A temporary bridge will be cemented to protect the teeth in the first visit, and a permanent bridge (constructed by the dental laboratory) will be securely placed during your second visit.

What are Veneers?
Veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material that are bonded to the front of a tooth. Dental Veneers are ideal for improving the appearance of your front teeth, such as closing the spaces between teeth, lengthening small or misshaped teeth, or whitening stained or dark teeth.
When teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, Dental Veneers can protect them from further damage, and help to restore their original appearance and function.
