A denture is a removable appliance used to replace missing teeth. While dentures may not feel the same as your natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.
There are several denture options. Talk to Dr Henry about what is important to you and he will customise your denture to help you replace missing teeth. Dr Henry can craft custom dentures that are aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.
Removable dentures are an affordable option for patients who need to replace multiple missing teeth. Many patients like the flexibility of being able to remove their dentures to clean and sleep. Traditional removable dentures are an effective way to replace missing teeth.
For a more stable and secure denture, Dr Henry recommends Implant Supported Dentures. By securing your denture to dental implants, patients treat them just like natural teeth, eliminating slippage, allowing you to chew, laugh and talk without the fear of them falling out.
If you still have a number of your natural teeth, then a partial denture may be the answer for you. Using a metal frame that clasps onto your existing teeth, a partial denture is an affordable way to place your missing teeth.
How long before I can get use to my denture?
New dentures may feel awkward or uncomfortable for the first few weeks or even months. Eating and speaking with dentures might take a little practice. A bulky or loose feeling is not uncommon, as the muscles of your cheeks and tongue learn to hold your dentures in place. Excessive saliva flow, a feeling that the tongue does not have adequate room, and minor irritation or soreness are also not unusual. Please tell Dr. Henry if you experience any irritations.
How long will my denture last?
Over time, normal wear means your denture will need to be relined, remade or rebased. Your mouth naturally changes over time, these changes will make your denture loose, making chewing difficult and irritating your gums. We recommend you visit Red Hill Dental at least once a year for your annual denture examination.
