Gum Rejuvenation in Paddington

closeup of woman smilingIf you have experienced the loss of gum tissue along the gumline, then you have gum recession. There are many causes of this condition: periodontal disease (e.g., gingivitis, periodontitis or advanced periodontitis), the natural ageing process, brushing the teeth too forcefully or wearing braces can all contribute to this condition.

Seeking Treatment Is Vital

Due to the tooth’s root structure being exposed with gum recession, you may experience tooth decay and other issues that can impact the teeth along and underneath the gum line. Having healthy, pink gums is critical when it comes to maintaining optimal oral health; that’s why it’s essential to get gum recession treated as soon as possible.

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Gum Rejuvenation Technique (PST™)

At Red Hill Dental, we are pleased to offer patients the innovative Chao Pinhole Surgical Gum Rejuvenation Technique. Dr Henry Ho is only one of a few dental surgeons in Queensland who is qualified to perform this revolutionary method.

The technique involves using a needle to create a small hole in a patient’s existing gum tissue. Through this tiny hole, Dr Henry uses specialised instruments to carefully release the gum tissue. He uses these tools to help enlarge and slide the gumline to cover the unprotected root structure.

An array of benefits is associated with the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Gum Rejuvenation Technique:

  • Minimal post-treatment discomfort
  • Quicker recovery time versus conventional grafting
  • No uncomfortable sutures or incisions
  • Surgical tools such as scalpels aren’t used
  • Tissue from the patient’s palate isn’t required
  • The results are natural-looking and long-lasting

Chao Pinhole vs Traditional Gum Grafting

In the traditional method, we would take tissue from your palate to graft onto your existing gums. This can result in gums that aren’t the same texture or colour, since the tissue comes from a different area. The Pinhole Technique offers a more aesthetic appearance because you will only see your own existing gums, with no scar on the gumline.

Since the Pinhole method doesn’t require tissue from your palate, it is less invasive and less painful, both during the procedure and while healing.
