Root Canal Treatment in Paddington
At Red Hill Dental, we offer root canal therapy as a common procedure to save infected teeth.
Composed of nerves and blood vessels, dental “pulp” is located at the centre of the tooth. The pulp can become infected due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma to the tooth. The infection causes pain, sensitivity to temperature, and swelling of the cheek and gum, thus resulting in the need for a root canal.
In root canal therapy, the pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. The main objectives of root canal therapy are to relieve pain and save the natural tooth from extraction.
The thought of undergoing root canal therapy may cause patients to avoid treatment. However, the infection can become more extensive and the pain more severe as time goes by, so treatment should not be delayed. Root canal therapy also has a higher rate of success if performed soon after the symptoms appear.
The Procedure
During your second appointment, the canal will be filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha and sealed with cement. A post is sometimes inserted for additional support. It is highly recommended that a crown be placed on top of the tooth to protect it from infection, breaking, or cracking.
If you’re dealing with an infection, it’s important to visit our practice as quickly as possible so that we can save your tooth and provide you with the quality care you need.
